Description

CO2 sensors are often used in air conditioning systems.  Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation, (AKM), now has an infrared (IR) sensor the AK9710, an uncooled InSb type photovoltaic power element with an optical filter corresponding to a pass band in the infrared absorption band of CO2.

AKM’s newly developed device, the AK9700AE, is an infrared LED with a peak emission wavelength in the infrared absorption band of CO2.  This product features a high-speed driver, high reliability, and small package.  Benefits are miniaturization and low power consumption.

The AK9721AE, which is also newly developed, an IR sensor AFE equipped with IR-LED driver.  Constant current driving of the LEDs and the AFE gain can be changed by programming.  It features low current consumption and small package size.

An NDIR type CO2 sensor can be easily configured by using the new AK9700AE and the AK9721AE in addition to the AK9710.  In the future, with the spread of the NDIR type CO2 sensor, the efficient operation of the air conditioning system becomes possible and energy saving effect can be expected.  Mass production is scheduled for January 2018.  The automotive version of both products is planned for automotive air conditioners and others.
