Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) today launched the AK4495S, a high performance 32-bit stereo DAC that achieves 123dB dynamic range for stereo and 126dB for mono outputs (with optional 7V analog power supply). This is a flagship addition to AKM’s VERITA series of product in the Audio 4 ProTM family that adopts a newly developed VELVET SOUNDTM technology. An innovative design technique utilizing a symmetrical layout for the left and right channels prevents signal quality deterioration, and a 32-bit digital operation block provides full 32-bit processing.

 

The AK4495S integrates a newly developed circuit achieving rich sound field and bass representation that realizes a music playback experience with less distortion. As a sound quality consideration, the VDD, VREFH, VSS and VREFL pins are distributed for each L and R channels. Besides that, each L and R channel of these has two pins to avoid common impedance effects and to achieve low impedance performance as much as possible.

 

Five digital filters are integrated into the AK4495S: a short delay, sharp roll-off filter and a short delay, slow roll-off filter for minimum delay, a sharp roll-off filter and a slow roll-off filter for no phase shifting, and newly integrated super slow roll-off filter having emphasized characteristics, providing a wide range of choice in digital filters.

 

The AK4495S supports 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz DSD (Direct Stream Digital) input, and PCM data input. Volume pass mode bypasses the volume control block and the delta sigma modulator when play back DSD data. It is suitable for applications which have most priority to the sound quality. Since the AK4495S contains an integrated low-pass filter only for DSD data, the required performance in the SACD format book (Scarlet Book) can be easily realized with a simple external analog filter. The output level is the same for either PCM or DSD input data, as well as for external digital filter input. Volume control is independent of the input data format. Supporting both PCM and DSD audio data, the AK4495S is ideal for high-end audio equipment, including high-end Blu-Ray, DVD-Audio, and SACD players, AV receivers and digital mixers. It is housed in a 44-pin LQFP package.
