Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation, (AKM), introduces new motor drivers that can operate with a single 32 V power supply. First, the AP1040, a motor driver with a maximum output current of 2.0A has been released. Since the AP1040 has a 2ch H-Bridge circuit, it is capable of driving two DC motors, or one stepping motor. In addition, the AP1041 has a single channel H-Bridge circuit with 1.0A of maximum output current and the AP1042 with 5.0A maximum output current. Release is slated for Q4 2018.
These devices are assumed to be used in a 24V system, such as office automation equipment like a multifunction printers (MFP), laser beam printers, ATMs, POS terminals, and so on.
The AP1040 can control the PWM duty-cycle with the voltage input to the VREF pin. This function makes it possible to control the speed of the motor and suppress the peak current upon power up. In addition, a sense resistor is not necessary with the AP1040.
The AP1040 has an overcurrent detection circuit at the output stage. The detection time can be adjusted from 1.5 to 11μs depending on the resistor value connected to the TBLANK pin. This function makes it possible to apply optimum overcurrent protection when changing the motor or power supply.
In addition, the AP1040 integrates low-voltage protection, overcurrent protection, overheat protection, and shoot-through current prevention circuits, and it is equipped with the FLAG pin for the period during protection function operation, enhancing safety.
