AKM develops a 14-bit, ±0.1° angle accuracy, absolute magnetic rotation angle sensor with support for off-axis configuration
Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) has developed the AK7454, an absolute magnetic rotation angle sensor with enhanced calibration functionality and a significantly-reduced package size. Samples are shipping now, with mass production beginning in October of 2019.
The AK7454 integrates an advanced user calibration function, enabling it to calibrate angular errors caused by mounting misalignment, magnet characteristics, etc. Additionally, shaft-end and off-axis configurations are supported.
An internal EEPROM allows for programming of a zero-point setting, rotation direction, ABZ output resolution (1 to 4096 ppr), and number of poles of UVW output (1 to 32 pole pairs). The AK7454 can track rotation at speeds up to 25,000 rpm via the tracking servo system architecture, with an output delay time of 1.2μs. The AK7454 adapts a small and thin QFN24 package. The supply voltage range is 3.0 to 5.5V.
Supports Off-Axis Configuration
The operating magnetic field range of the AK7454 has expanded to cover 10 to 70mT, allowing for off-axis configurations. A shaft-through type motor system can be constructed with this off-axis configuration, helping to make the motor system thinner and enabling the construction of a hollow structure type.
Angle Error Calibration Function
High accuracy calibration can be performed with 16+ points of measurement data in a single rotation. By writing the 1st to 4th order calibration parameters to the internal EEPROM, an angular accuracy of ±0.1deg(typ.) can be achieved, even in the off-axis configuration.
