Millimeter-wave Radar

Overview

AIMEZ-V is an evaluation kit based on the millimeter-wave radar antenna-in-module (AiM) products, AK5816AIM and AK5818AIM.
It includes Wi-Fi®/ Bluetooth® enabled modules, a microcontroller, and various interfaces, allowing flexible use from basic operation checks to embedded evaluation.
This page provides access to dedicated software (GUI/ firmware).
For initial setup and usage instructions, please refer to the instructional video at the bottom of the page.

Software

#1 Posture and Fall Detection (Single-Person Monitoring)

Overview

The evaluation kit “AIMEZ-V” enables tracking of a person’s location and estimation of posture and falls. This algorithm serves as a basic example of human tracking using the RPU (Radar Processing Unit) built into the AiM (Antenna-in-Module). It supports configurations that allow tilting in both azimuth and elevation directions, accommodating use cases for both wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted installations.

The bundled GUI not only displays detection results but also supports saving RPU output data and post-tracking processed data in CSV file format.

The supported number of subjects is limited to one person. For multi-person monitoring or more precise point cloud analysis, advanced processing using ADC raw data output with an external MCU (Microcontroller Unit) is recommended.

Posture and Fall Detection (Wall-mounted)

#2 Posture and Fall Detection (Multi-Person Monitoring)

Overview

The evaluation kit “AIMEZ-V” enables estimation of the positions and fall status of multiple individuals within the monitoring area. This algorithm serves as an advanced implementation example of high-precision point cloud detection by applying the Capon method on an external MCU using ADC data output from AiM. It supports configurations that allow tilting in both azimuth and elevation directions, accommodating use cases for both wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted installations.

The bundled GUI not only displays monitoring results but also supports saving RPU output data and post-tracking processed data in CSV file format.

The Capon computation algorithm is provided as a library for ESP32-P4, enabling the use of high-precision point cloud information for developing various algorithms.

#3 ADC Data Collection and Analysis

Overview

This tool is designed for advanced users to collect and analyze ADC raw data from the AiM mounted on the “AIMEZ-V” evaluation kit.

The bundled GUI allows users to acquire ADC raw data in binary format under various conditions while adjusting AiM register settings. It also includes offline radar signal processing functions, enabling data analysis in formats such as heatmaps and high-precision point clouds.

It can be used as a pre-study step for developing systems that perform higher-precision radar signal processing in combination with an external MCU.
