AKM is now sampling the AK7749, a DSP-integrated codec that enables in-vehicle hands-free voice processing without the need for a dedicated microcontroller.

2022/08/08

Description

Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) has developed the AK7749, an DSP-integrated codec for automotive hands-free applications.  The AK7749 features an automatic mode-switching function supporting multiple usage scenarios, as well as a full range of digital and analog input/output interfaces.  The AK7749 is sampling now.

Voice applications have often required complex system design in order to provide features such as voice recognition and anomaly detection.  This complexity is due to the need for a dedicated microcontroller, in addition to an audio device, to implement mode switching, data reading, and additional software functions.

The AK7749 features a built-in DSP that can automatically switch modes in response to specific usage scenarios.  Its multiple digital and analog I/O interfaces are routed to an integrated audio hub, enabling flexible switching and routing that would traditionally require a microcontroller.

Additionally, the AK7749 supports AKM's beamforming technology, which has been developed over the past 20 years, as well as pre-processing for hands-free communication, voice recognition.  This software suite enables clear calls in the cabin, and is well-suited to a variety of mic/speaker modules including automotive telematics communication units.

The AK7749 can also be used to easily add voice features to various in-vehicle devices, such as driving recorders.

AK7749

Features

Microcontroller-less automatic mode switching performed according to usage scenarios

  • The AK7749 provides stand-alone detection of specific voice recognition mode, disconnection, and system malfunctions, with automatic switching for up to 8 modes.
  • Mode switching can occur within 0.5ms by automatically loading sequential data from external flash memory. This easily meets various standards that require high-speed response.
  • Package size: 7mm x 7mm, 48-pin QFN

Full range of digital and analog interface specifications optimal for voice applications

  • Equipped with an audio hub that enables flexible input/output in various data formats at multiple sample rates.
  • Features 4-channel ADC (S/N: 102dB) and 2-channel DAC (S/N: 100dB).
  • Built-in 4ch. digital microphone interface, 4ch. SRC, and DIT/DIR.

Built-in echo/noise canceller and other essential functions for in-vehicle voice applications

  • Supports two-mic beamforming required for microphone/speaker modules.
  • Highly robust hands-free calling and in-vehicle communication technologies proven for automotive applications over the last 20 years.
  • Operating temperature range for automotive compatibility: -40 to 105°C

Application

  • TCU, E-call, drive recorder, in-vehicle microphone speaker module
