The tri-axis magnetic sensor-based linear stroke detection solution of Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) provides higher accuracy and wider linear stroke detection range than typical solutions that use single-axis magnetic sensors. Demonstration

  1. Linear stroke detection is performed by moving a magnet over a single and tri-axis magnetic sensor.
  2. The tri-axis magnetic sensor can detect longer linear strokes.

2. Reduction of mounting error influence

Algorithm Robust to Mounting Error

AKM's tri-axis magnetic sensors are not susceptible to mounting errors, and depending on the required accuracy, the calibration process can be reduced.

Demonstration

  1. Linear stroke detection is performed by moving a magnet over a single and tri-axis magnetic sensor.
  2. Linear stroke detection is performed again by shifting the mounting position of the magnet 0.5[mm] (in the z-axis direction).
  3. The tri-axis magnetic sensor can detect linear strokes without being affected by mounting errors.

Multi-purpose tri-axis Magnetic Sensor, AK09973D

AK09973D is ideal for non-contact detection of relative positions, distances, postures and angles with magnets by using it in combination with a magnet.

AK09973D is packaged in 5-pin WL-CSP with 0.4[mm] ball-pitch. Size is 1.18 × 0.78 x 0.55[mm] and it comprises 2 pins for power supply, 2 pins for I²C communication, and one Interrupt output pin.
