These evaluation kits are equipped with AiM (Antenna-in-Module), a millimeter-wave radar module with an integrated antenna.
Even without specialized knowledge of antenna design or signal processing, you can quickly detect human states, enabling smooth verification for installation.

Evaluation Kits

Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) offers easy-to-use evaluation kits for our millimeter-wave solutions.
Our kits support a wide range of applications requiring privacy-conscious sensing, such as Agetech (technologies supporting senior living), residential facilities, and smart appliances.
AKM’s basic algorithms are available online, allowing you to begin the initial evaluation of sensing functions immediately. All models support output of measurement data, enabling you to develop your own algorithms as well.

Measurement Examples

With the evaluation kit, you can implement the following types of sensing without using a camera.

  • Posture and Fall Detection
    Captures motion changes in 3D with high precision. Also supports fall detection, making it suitable for monitoring the elderly or for safety management as a non-contact sensor.

  • Position Detection
    Tracks a person's position in a room and flow line in real time. Can be used as a control trigger under a smart home or IoT device.

  • Respiration Detection
    Detects the presence and cycle of breathing by capturing subtle chest movements. Effective for sleep monitoring and healthcare applications.

The evaluation kit supports measurement data output and incorporation of custom algorithms, offering flexibility to adapt to various sensing applications according to customer needs.

AIMEZ-V

This is a versatile model that is easy to use and implement, and available online.

With the dedicated GUI, states such as respiration, position, and posture can be evaluated easily and non-invasively, enabling smooth deployment and verification even with limited development resources.

Antenna-in-Module (AiM)

AK5816AIM / AK5818AIM

These Antenna-in-Module (AiM) millimeter-wave radar modules “AK5816AIM / AK5818AIM” are compact, high-performance modules that combine the millimeter-wave radar IC (AK5816 / AK5818) and antenna, supporting 3D sensing.

These modules feature 4-channel transmission and 4-channel reception, enabling multi-channel measurement with high angular resolution. They enable precise detection of human positions, movements, and falls. With the antenna integrated into the module, they can be used in combination with an external MCU (Microcontroller Unit) or SoC. This allows you to immediately utilize the 3D sensing functions without requiring expertise in antenna designs or high-frequency circuit designs.

Furthermore, AK5816AIM / AK5818AIM can be directly mounted onto FR-4 boards (glass epoxy substrates) using standard Surface-Mount Technology (SMT), making it easy to integrate them into existing products.

The millimeter-wave radar ICs “AK5816 / AK5818” are equipped with a Radar Processing Unit (RPU), allowing you to directly extract 3D point cloud data and focus on developing algorithms based on that data.

We offer two module types depending on your application needs:

  • AK5816AIM : Compact millimeter-wave radar module designed for consumer electronics, industrial equipment, and IoT devices.
  • AK5818AIM : High-reliability millimeter-wave radar module that meets automotive-grade requirements.
