AKM to Exhibit Automotive Current Sensor Solutions at PCIM Europe 2025

Current sensor for automotive on-board chargers and DC/DCs

AKM will exhibit its CZ39 current sensor series that is highly compatible with SiC/GaN power devices. A demonstrator at the booth visualizes the high-speed triangular wave current measurement that simulates the steep current time change rate (dI/dt) required in systems using SiC or GaN.

In collaboration with Silicon Austria Labs (SAL), AKM has developed an eFuse system that solves the challenges of  protection systems using conventional mechanical fuses. AKM is currently introducing a concept of the eFuse technology that aims to significantly improve safety and reduce the cost of systems such as on-board chargers (OBCs) in automobiles.

Coreless current sensor IC for AC servo controls

In addition, the company will showcase an AC servomotor control demonstrator utilizing the CQ36, a coreless current sensor IC with a delta-sigma digital output function.

This technology, while maintaining a resolution equivalent to that of shunt resistors, presents a new solution that significantly reduces heat generation by approximately 1/10th. It can greatly contribute to the miniaturization of AC servo motors and robots.

Coreless current sensor for traction inverters

The traction inverter, a core component of EVs, faces numerous challenges, including performance enhancement and miniaturization.

To address these challenges, AKM is developing an external conductor type coreless current sensor that can handle large currents of several hundred amperes or more for traction inverters. A prototype will be exhibited at the booth. Compared to conventional core-type current sensors, it maintains the key characteristics while significantly reducing the size of the inverter system. 

Furthermore, AKM will display a Proof of Concept (PoC) that integrates the current sensor within the power module, a development discovered through joint technical validation with SAL. This PoC contributes to further miniaturization and reduction in the number of components.
