Asahi Kasei Microdevices Develops EV Current Sensor with Wide Measurement Range of ±300A
Contribution to Downsizing of High-Power Bidirectional OBCs and DC/DC Converters

Description

Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) has developed the CZ3K series current sensors for electric vehicle (EV) applications. The CZ3K series contributes to the downsizing of increasingly high-power bidirectional on-board chargers (OBCs) and DC/DC converters by offering a wide current measurement range of up to ±300A and a low primary conductor resistance of 0.27 mΩ.

The CZ3K series will be exhibited at PCIM Europe 2026, to be held in Nuremberg, Germany, from June 9 to 11, 2026.

Features

Contributing to higher power density and system downsizing

The CZ3K series inherits the fast response and noise immunity of the CZ39 series, which has a proven track record in EV current sensing applications. By extending the measurement current range to ±300A and reducing the primary conductor resistance to 0.27 mΩ, the CZ3K series suppresses heat generation during continuous current operation.

When used in automotive systems incorporating next-generation power devices such as SiC and GaN, the CZ3K series enables higher switching frequencies. In addition, its lower resistance allows for further reduction in PCB size, contributing to overall system miniaturization.

Fast and flexible overcurrent protection

With a fast response time of 100 ns and high accuracy, the CZ3K series is well suited for fast protection against overcurrent and short-circuit conditions. Its wide current measurement range of ±300A also makes it ideal for applications such as electronic fuses (eFuses), where cutoff timing and current thresholds can be flexibly configured according to the measured current, thereby enhancing overall system safety.
