Description
The AK7440 is a 20-bit encoder IC that operates based on the applied magnetic field generated by a 2-track magnetic slit disk and a bipolar bias magnet. It measures absolute position by sensing the magnetic field derived from the 2-track slit using the vernier caliper principle. The AK7440 incorporates two built-in compound semiconductor magnetoresistance (SMR) that can acquire a low-distortion sinusoidal wave that corresponds to the changes in magnetic flux density due to slit unevenness. The SMR contribute to achieving high-accuracy angle calculation. The AK7440 provides an angle error correction function that compensates for assembly errors, such as disk eccentricity, tilt, and IC position misalignment. This function becomes effective automatically upon setting several parameters, predetermined by a calibration process, in the IC register.
