In 1974, Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) began developing sensors for automotive airbags, marking the first step in the evolution of the Hall sensor technology. We have continued to advance to meet the needs of the age, starting full-scale operations in the 1980s. Since then, we have shipped over 50 billion Hall sensors.
Today, AKM's Hall sensors are used in various products that support our daily living, such as air conditioners, washing machines, and smartphones. AKM's Hall sensors support our comfortable and convenient living where the sensors cannot be seen.

A Hall sensor is a magnetic sensor that detects magnetic fields (flux density). Specifically, it utilizes a Hall effect to detect magnetic fields and convert them into electrical signals. This technology is indispensable for precision control and is utilized in air conditioners, home appliances, automotive systems, and smart devices.

High Sensitivity and Reliability Achieved by AKM's Technology

By using compound semiconductors such as indium antimonide (InSb), gallium arsenide (GaAs), and indium arsenide (InAs), we significantly enhance the performance characteristics of the sensors. The selection of these materials allows AKM's Hall sensors to deliver high performance across various applications.
Hall Elements
Hall elements are analog sensors that directly output the voltage generated by the Hall effect.
HW Series (InSb)
Features : Extremely high sensitivity, ideal for applications that require detection of precise magnetic field changes, such as motor rotation detection. Applications: Detection of rotations of various types of motors that are commonly used (e.g., DC brushless motors like fan motors).
HG Series (GaAs)
Features : Excellent temperature characteristics and maintains stable linearity even in high magnetic field environments. It is suitable for the applications requiring delicate control, such as camera stabilization and autofocus. Applications: Precise detection of magnet position (examples: camera stabilization/autofocus/aperture/zoom, etc.)
HQ Series (InAs)
Features : Balanced sensitivity and temperature characteristics, making it ideal for applications requiring more precise magnetic field detection. Applications: Precise detection of magnet position (examples: camera stabilization/autofocus/aperture/zoom), suitable for applications requiring higher sensitivity than HG products.
Hall ICs
The HW series Hall ICs convert Hall voltage to High/Low digital output, facilitating various sensing applications.
EW Series
Features : Fast response, easy circuit design
Applications : Detecting motor rotation and proximity of magnets (e.g., home positioning), used in power tools, flow meters, valve operations, etc.
Linear Hall ICs
The HQ series Linear Hall ICs amplify the Hall voltage for output, enhancing measurement capabilities.
EQ Series
Features : Fast response, variable sensitivity, easy circuit design
Applications : Precise measurement of magnet positions, used in home appliances, fuel tank level detection, and low-speed motors, etc.
