Maintenance-free operation with a single coin-cell battery for more than a year

This is an introduction to the reference design of a modular "CO₂ Sensor Beacon" that can be operated with a single coin-cell battery using a CO₂ sensor Senseair Sunrise.

By using the application note, schematic, BOM, Gerber files, receiver software, etc., modular designs can be advanced quickly.

A compactly constructed IoT gas sensor network

CO₂ sensor Senseair Sunrise and the temperature/humidity sensor data are transmitted using Bluetooth® Low Energy transmitter IC AK1595A . With a transmission period of 15 minutes, the average current consumption of the entire sensor beacon is only 19[μA], so one coin-cell battery can operate for more than a year.

Its compact size (25 x 45 x t22[mm]) provides high flexibility in placement. CO₂ Sensor Beacon is the optimal sensor node for building IoT sensor networks. In addition, up to eight sensor data can be acquired simultaneously by using the receiver software.

Compact functions required for wireless air quality sensing

  • One coin-cell battery provides at least one year of maintenance-free operation

    • CO₂ sensor: ± (30 ppm + 3 % of reading)
    • Temperature sensor: ± 0.2 ℃
    • Humidity sensor: ± 2 %RH
  • Simple power supply circuit configuration
  • UART communication (Modbus) enables user to adjust the measurement cycle and other parameters.
